Flood Insurance

The cost of damage from just one inch of water can exceed $20,000.

An overabundance of water on ordinarily dry terrain that affects two or more acres of land or two or more properties is called a flood.

Plumbing issues, including a toilet backup, a flooded air conditioner, or an overflowing washing machine, are typically the cause of water damage.

Floods are not just caused by storms. Levees or dams failing, new construction altering the way water flows above and below ground, snowmelt, and many more factors can result in flooding.

Flood insurance is required by federally regulated or insured lenders for mortgaged properties situated in high-risk flood zones. However, your mortgage lender can still insist that you carry flood insurance even if your house is not located in a high-risk flood location.

Water from a hurricane, natural calamity, or period of intense rain is typically the source of flood damage. This can include persistent roof leaks, sump pump failure, or sudden floods.

Floods can occur anywhere; houses outside of high-risk flood zones account for more than 20% of flood claims.
